Finished Object Reveal: One Big Crochet Pig

Another "What's My WIP?" Series project has been completed!

The Big Crochet Pig has crossed the finish line! Yay! I managed to complete it back in July, but I'm just getting around to sharing its final steps now. There aren't that many, so we'll get to the reveal quickly, I promise!

Final Touches

When we last saw Big Pig here, they were un-stuffed and without a tail. And since no pig would be complete without a tail, I had to create one through trail and error. I forgot how to crochet a spiral, but thanks to this tutorial, I re-acquainted myself with the simple technique and quickly worked up what I deemed a decently-sized, decently-springy pigtail for Big Pig.

I still needed to add the safety eyes to Big Pig as well, and I was dreading that moment. During the other times I had attached eyes that big, I had to stand on the poor critter's deflated head to get the backings to snap in place, sometimes needing to bounce a bit to apply even pressure. This time, thankfully, the eyes went on with very little problem.

I first attached the snout in order to know where the eyes would fit in, and then it was time to pop 'em into place! I had to stand briefly on the backings to snap them in, but I didn't have to bounce this time, which is a small victory I definitely celebrated.

Once the eyes were in place, Big Pig got the rest of their body sewn up and "stuffed with fluffies," as A. A. Milne would say. Big Pig was made with around two and a half bags of 20-ounce polyfill, and they're still on the squishy side, so keep that in mind if you make your own! Buy more stuffing than you think you'll need in case the stuffing doesn't like feel enough.

So I've stuffed, and I've fluffed, and I'm pretty chuffed now with the Big Pig's outcome! See for yourself!

The Reveal

**Big Pig traveled to their new home a few days after completion. They were received warmly and immediately became a dress-up doll for their new owner. Congratulations, Big Pig! You'll be the most stylish plush around!**

Final Thoughts

Pattern- I find this to be a beginner-friendly pattern. The large gauge allows you to easily see what you're doing, and as long as you know how to increase and decrease in the round, you'll have no problem creating a Bunny of your own.

If you have more advanced crochet skills (or if you're a beginner who likes a challenge), it's simple to modify the pattern to make new animals. As long as you keep the proportions of the pieces in check with the head and body (or don't if that's your style!) any species can become over-sized.

Yarn- The Bernat Blanket Yarn was quite perfect for this project, in my opinion. It was soft enough for a plush, and made the right gauge for me when doubled. I used about two skeins and then some in total of Coral for the whole pig, which was pretty great since this project calls for A LOT of yarn. Each skein had over 200 yards of yarn at around $11 per skein for me. You can get it cheaper, too, with coupons and sales, so keep that in mind! I recommend it as a substitute yarn for what the Blossom Bunny pattern calls for. (not sponsored or affiliated!)

Process- I'd make another Big Pig if I was asked to, no doubt. I'd love to make one that has the spots like the pig in Moana, you know? I think that'd be a really cute design... perhaps a few Big Animals will appear as limited stock in my Etsy...hmm...

I can't believe Project #2 is done already... but I really can't believe I managed to do two projects from my Procrastination Pile in a month! I'm happy that I've stuck to posting about the projects so far, even if no one is reading about them. Having the deadline and knowing I need to have content for a post has kept me disciplined enough to have two completed items to show for it, and some things posted to my blog that maybe someone else will find decent enough to read...if that's you, thank you for being here. I'm trying my hardest, and I'm thankful you're taking time to be here and read about the projects I'm trying to get done, or have done... One Gosling (check that out here if you haven't yet), One Big Pig... what'll it be next week, I wonder? I'm not sure...

Check the blog next Wednesday to find out the answer.
