How To Easily Fix Blurry Canva Downloads

Have you been a victim of blurry images after downloading your designs from the Canva app?

I have an easy solution for you that will take less than a minute. Promise!

. . . . .

. . . . .

All you have to do is TRIPLE the pixels needed for your design. Here's an example:

**I have the Canva subscription, which gives me access to tools you may not have with the free version. I will show you what to do if you have an outside editing program and a free Canva subscription after this**

Let's say you have a blog banner that needs to be 480x300px, so that's what you open in Canva. You spent a decent amount of time making it exactly how you want it. You're happy with it, so you hit download, put it into your post, and you get this:

Canva download saved with 480x300px

Not the sharpest resolution, eh? Notice how blurry my logo is on the bottom right? Not good!

In order to remedy the blur, you need to triple both dimensions.

480 x 3= 1,440

300 x 3= 900

Your new design size needs to be 1,440px x 900px.

. . .

With this newfound information, let's put it to the test:

Go into your Canva document and click "Resize."

Now, under "Custom Size," enter your new pixel dimensions. Then hit, "Copy & Resize."

This will make a bigger version of your original file that you can save separately. Go up to "Share" in the top right corner, then select "Download." I typically do the suggested PNG file. Once it's downloaded to your computer, go ahead and insert it into your post. It should now look something like this:

Ta da! Lookin' good!

I had to use this trick to fix my old blog post title photos. They were all that hazy, blurry mess before I did this, and now they look so much cleaner and pleasant to view.

But what if you don't have access to these Canva options?

Let's fire up that photo editing software and fix it there!

. . . . .

The Free Subscription Resize Remedy

YOU MUST HAVE A PHOTO EDITING APP LIKE KRITA TO PERFORM THIS METHOD!

**I learned this technique from Sarah Chetrit's article here. **

If you have the free version of Canva and an outside photo editing software, this is how you fix the blur. It takes longer than a minute, but you get those crisp results!

Now, I'm using Krita because I'm a Windows user. I unfortunately do not know Photoshop like I used to, so this is geared toward Krita users. If you can figure out what options you need to use in your other program following this, by all means do!

First, open your photo editing software on your computer as well as the intended file in Canva.

In Canva, go to "Share," then "Download."

**THIS IS WHERE IT DIFFERS FROM BEFORE**

Download the file under "PDF PRINT."

Now, open Krita. Select "Open File," and click on the PDF version you just downloaded. It will have the PDF document image next to it.

You are now presented with a small pop-up window in the center of the screen, shown below. See where it has options for height, width, and resolution? We're going to edit the resolution.

You'll see that the popup says resolution is set to 100dpi. We want to change that to 300. This is increasing the number of dots found in a square inch of the image, making your picture crisper and easier to read. Make sure your height and width are linked so the change in resolution edits those, too. We want that to happen.

Hit "Okay" and your image will open in Krita.

SAVE THE FILE BY DOING THE FOLLOWING:

FILE > SAVE AS > Select the file type you want (JPEG, PNG) > Rename the file if you'd like > Click "SAVE"

Your image will now upload nice and sharp instead of blurry!

. . . . .
