I never let you know that I moved.
My husband accepted a job in Virginia, so we spent our May house-hunting from afar, then moving at the beginning of June.
And yes: I also got married!
That happened in April. It was lovely and we had a great time. 😊  It’s been an action-packed few months, my friends. Let me catch you up...
Goodbye Vermont || Hello Virginia
To keep my sanity during the change last month, I was away from my socials ‘til June 10th so we could focus on packing, traveling, and then unpacking our 22’ moving van into our new home. It’s now been a month since the chaos, and I’ve had time now to settle in to tell you about it.
To start: our new home is super nice. It’s a townhouse, which I never thought I’d enjoy living in, but we can’t hear our neighbors and I looove the nine-foot ceilings throughout, and butcher block counters in our kitchen.
Also, in pleasant surprise: I DO have a garden to tend to! It’s not a lot, but there’s work to be done in it for sure. I already have a plan for it, and I’m excited to turn it around this fall to make it a nice slice of curb appeal. Stay tuned for that adventure :)
The neighborhood we’re in is nice, too. We may not have a back yard, but the development is big enough to provide long walks for our high-energy Dobsky girl. She’s not used to other people and dogs (I’m not good with people, either) so those are a challenge to face, but we’re getting better together.
The heat is something to get used to here. Being from the Northeast with Swedish genes, I’m a cold-climate gal. Having temperatures above 100 degrees with high humidity is all new to me and my family. The cats seem to love it, though; I’ll open the windows in their room and they’re like Sahara cats, lounging fully outstretched on their cat tower, little toe beans hanging over the edge in toasty bliss.
In more good fortune: my craft supplies are all in one place for the first time in ages! I unfortunately don’t have the woodworking tools like the bandsaw, jigsaw, or any of my father’s collection to use, so that sucks. My dad suggested he could cut the shapes I have out and ship them to me to paint, which isn’t a bad idea. I wish I could do it myself though; I enjoy that part of the process.
But I’m thankful I have a room just for my crafts here. I used to share with the cats in our old place, and at my parent’s, my studio was part of their basement and my old bedroom. I didn’t mind it, but I’m happy I don’t have to interrupt the cat naps and their chill zone when I want to raid my craft closet for supplies anymore. I think they like it too.
I’m excited to decorate my craft room as well; I set up a cubby storage system I bought years ago in there, and it houses my yarn perfectly while also providing an interesting piece of furniture to the space. It also gives me lots of places to display my crochet hooks and other goodies on top of it. There will be Dopamine Decorating going on in there, for sure.
My husband is definitely enjoying life in the suburbs. He's a city boy originally, and living in the Vermont countryside was quite a challenge for him. There weren't many options for restaurants around, and anything worth doing was an hour or more away. Here, we have the convenience of shopping centers within miles and a ton of options for food close by. I like it, too, honestly.
We also have the nation's capital close enough to take a day trip to. My husband loves history and I love art, so this is very appealing to the both of us. We took advantage of this knowledge already and rented a couple motorized scooters to visit the Washington Monument, The Vietnam Memorial, and The White House which is a lot smaller than they make it seem in movies. It was a fun time, and we'll absolutely be heading back to visit the rest of the attractions.
