Gift Ideas for Knitters & Crocheters Pt. 2

Updated: Nov 21, 2022

Welcome to Part Two of my gift guide series! I hope it finds you well this week.

We're quickly approaching Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday. How are you holding up? Is everything in order for your Thursday dinner and Christmas presents? Do you still need to check a few people off your gift list? If any of them are knitters or crocheters, keep reading! I think you'll like what I've found.

Part One looked at gifts for Project Prep and Tools of the Trade. Part Two is all about Crafter Health, Notions, and Project Storage.

Let's dive into the ideas, shall we?

Gift Ideas for Knitters & Crocheters

Crafter Health

PHOTO CREDIT TO MISSY GRAFF BALLONE

That's right; I mentioned health. We sometimes (or often times) forget to look after our hands, necks, and backs when on a creative streak. That can cause aches and pains that may stop us from working on projects for days, even weeks. Maybe the gift of some TLC is what your friend needs this holiday season? Help them treat their body well so they can keep crafting on for years to come.

. . . . .

$$$ Massage Gift Card- A full-body massage can do wonders on a knitter or crocheter. They're usually sitting and sometimes laying in odd positions while working for hours on end. They're bound to be sore and have a bit of pain. They'll be forever grateful for this gift of decompression and improved blood circulation.

$$ Wellness for Makers Book ($23): written by Missy Graff Ballone. 40+ exercises that help with better movement and strength specifically for makers. Pair with the hands and wrist kit for a thoughtful combo.

PHOTO CREDIT TO WELLNESS FOR MAKERS

$$ Wellness for Makers Hand & Wrist Kit ($50): not only will they get five tools specifically focused on working their hands, forearms, and wrists, they also get an instant download to Missy's "Wellness for Makers Guide to Healthy Hands, Wrists, and Forearms."

$$-$$$ Manicure Gift Card- indulging in a manicure sounds so nice. Give their hands and nails some TLC that they may not take time for or have time for. Getting a fresh nail polish on and having someone else take care of them can brighten their spirit, and renew their energy to stitch because they'll have pretty nails to go with their projects.

Their Favorite Hand Lotion- travel size is a plus so they can keep it in their project bags!

. . . . .

Neck & Shoulder Wraps

$$ Microwavable Neck and Shoulder Wrap ($24): from Amazon. 29"x6.6" microwavable wrap. Washable cover. Only available in gray.

$$ SHOP SMALL Naturally Yours Hot/Cold Neck Wrap ($25): 40"x5" handmade, microwavable neck wrap. I have one and LOVE it. I heat it up, drape it over my shoulders, and let the warmth do its thing. Has a blend of aromatherapy in it, but it can be ordered in unscented AND you can pick the fabric! I'm quite a fan of the celestial flannel they have. Made in Vermont!

$$ Hot/Cold Pad for Neck and Shoulders ($27): from Amazon. 12"x17". Can be used hot or cold. Microwavable and the cover is machine-washable. Only available in black.

$$ Sunbeam Heating Pad for Neck and Shoulders ($50): from Amazon. 22"x19" electric wrap. Has four heat settings and a 2-hour automatic turn-off. Only available in gray.

. . . . .

Compression Gloves

Knitting and crocheting is all about the hands. It works our fingers and wrists in repetitive ways for long stretches of time. Carpal Tunnel is a common injury for us, which is painful and detrimental to our hobby. A pair of compression gloves can help relieve our hands of pain while we work.

$ Arthritis Compression Gloves ($9): from Amazon. Available in Small, Medium and Large to fit many hand sizes, and comes in six different colors. I like the pink and brown ones myself. These cover the wrists and onto the fingers.

$$ Copper Compression Full-Sleeve Gloves ($25): from Amazon. Available in Small, Medium, Large and Extra-Large. These gloves cover the whole arm, up to the bicep to relieve pressure and pain in more places.

Notions

Notions Bag: the toolbox for a knitter or crocheter. Their scissors, tape measure, stitch markers, etc. are contained to this bag. And a notions bag can be anything, really. I've seen people using pencil pouches, makeup bags-- I've even seen someone using a big Caboodles Box to store all their notions in one place. Others (like myself) have multiple notions bags so every project has the tools it needs. It keeps from doing "the search" for where we last had something, then losing crafting momentum.

$ EASTHILL Big Capacity Pencil Case ($13): from Amazon. Great multi-pouch pencil case. Can organize supplies even more with the multiple compartments! 2.56" wide x 8.66" long x 4.13" tall.

$ EASTHILL Student Organizer ($7): from Amazon. Multiple colors to choose from. 3.35" wide x 8.27" long x 4.13" tall.

$ SHOP SMALL Redbubble Zippered Pouches ($9-14): offered in multiple sizes (Sm- 6"x4", Med- 9.5"x6", Lrg- 12.5"x8.5"). You can find practically anything on there to have printed onto it. Customize with their favorite movie/band/celebrity or keep it themed to crafting. I like the medium size bags for my notion bags. In part two, I suggested using the Large zippered pouches for small projects. You're supporting smaller businesses too by purchasing their design on Redbubble. Here are some examples of what you'll find:

Mini Travel Scissors: travel scissors are a great gift. They're cute in size but save space in a notions bag, which is most important. You can find them as "embroidery scissors" online, too. Some come with point protectors so your friend or loved one won't get poked going through their projects. TSA allows metal blades shorter than 4" on planes, so keep that in mind if your crafter likes to crochet or knit on planes.

$ Hobby Lobby 3 1/2" Ergonomic Embroidery Scissors ($5): I have these and like them a lot. They're really small and come with a point protector, which I am grateful for.

$ Fiskars Folding Travel Scissors ($10): from Michael's. TSA- compliant scissors so your crafter can bring them on an airplane with them. 4" total size. The handles fold over the blades to protect them when not in use. I have these and I will say that they're a little hard to fold. They probably loosen up over time, though.

$ Beaditive Detail Craft Scissor Set ($10): from Amazon. Set of two scissors, one with curved blades and one straight. Their transparent colors remind me of N64 Slime gaming consoles and controllers. These come with point protectors! 3.5" including handles.

$ Set of Three Clipper Snips ($11): from Amazon. Set of three squeeze-close scissors great for limited mobility. A great deal since you can furnish three separate notion bags with one order. Comes with point protectors! 4.33" tall including handle.

$ Hisuper 4.5" Embroidery Scissors ($9): from Amazon. Ornated-handled embroidery scissors to add flair to your crafter's bag. Comes with a cover!

$ Miss Babs Storklette Scissors ($15): from Miss Babs Yarn. They offer more styles and finishes if you want something different. 2.5" long.

Retractable Tape Measure

$ Three-Pack Tape Measure ($7): from Amazon. Plastic. Available in four different color schemes. Great to supply multiple notions bags.

$ Five-Pack Tape Measure ($7): from Amazon. Five tape measures in various colors. Again, great for supplying multiple notion bags.

$ Two-Pack Paw Shape Tape Measure ($14): from Amazon. Adorable paw-shaped tape measure pair! Available in two color schemes.

$$ Real Leather Covered Tape Measure ($23): from Amazon. Cow hide cover. Available in four colors.

. . . . .

Stitch Markers: these come in many different forms. There are locking, split ring, closed ring, and lobster clasp stitch markers. All but the closed ring design can be used for both knitting and crochet; closed ring stitch markers are meant for knitting only.

$ SHOP SMALL Honey Bee Knitting Crochet Stitch Markers ($14): from JackiBean on Etsy. Set of three enamel stitch markers and you choose the style of marker from pin, ring, or lobster clasp!

$ Knit Picks Quick-Locking Stitch Markers Set ($15): pretty pastel stitch markers that come in a carrying case! 10 small, 20 medium, and 6 large to accommodate different yarn weights.

$ Knit Picks Crochet Kitty with Yarn Ball Stitch Markers ($15): set of five locking stitch markers, 1 with a cat and 4 with yarn balls.

$ SHOP SMALL Large Flower Stitch Markers ($11-20): from allstitchStudio on Etsy. Set of 32. Can choose between two colors or get one of each.

$$ SHOP SMALL Stitch Markers for Knitting & Crochet ($20-26): from LauraTeagueDesigns on Etsy. Set of five. Made of sterling silver and shaped like a ribbon. Can choose what size you'd like from X-Small for needles as low as 2.75mm, Small up to US4, Medium to US10, and Large up to US15.

Project Storage

$ SHOP SMALL Sheep Knitting Needle Point Protectors from WishfulKnittingShop ($5): from Etsy. Set of two silicone ram point protectors for sizes US2- US15. Randomly-selected color. See their shop for more shapes.

$ Knitter's Pride Circular Needle Protectors ($12): a unique take on needle protectors. This circular needle protector is a hollow, aluminum tube with a cut cap on the end where the needles slide in and rest, protecting the whole length of them while also keeping the stitches on the cable. Can hold up to US 9 circulars.

$ SHOP SMALL 8-Pack Circular Needle Stitch Stoppers from knittingcords ($18): from Etsy. Another novel way to secure stitches on circular needles! Fits sizes US1-US8.

. . . . .

Project Bags

PHOTO CREDIT TO MLDTHREADZ ON ETSY

$ Knit Picks Clear Project Bags ($5-11): for the crafters that have a tendency to live by "out of sight, out of mind." A clear project bag lets them see exactly what UFO (unfinished object) is waiting to be finished inside. Has a zippered top and handles for easy transportation. Available as a tool pouch, and small, medium, and large bags.

$-$$ SHOP SMALL CreativeChaosCrochet sells drawstring style bags on Etsy for $16-27. They offer small project bags at 9.5"x8" and large at 15"x12", with square bottoms.

$-$$ Della Q Oh Snap Bags ($12-28): from Jimmy Beans Wool. Sjmilar to clear project bags, the mesh material allows a crafter to see their project easily. The snap closures let yarn through so the maker can keep their yarn contained and still work.

KNITTING/CROCHET BACKPACK

$$ Knitting/Crochet Backpack ($32): from Amazon. A backpack to take all the things in! If your friend travels often and is always staying somewhere new, they can put all their tools, notions, yarn, and projects in this for their adventure. Has a USB charging port on the outside, and a power bank on the inside. Can even fit their laptop! Available in 5 colors.

$$ SHOP SMALL MLDthreadz offers square-bottomed project bags on Etsy for $30-35. They say it holds two 50g balls of yarn, plus room for the work-in-progress. Zippered top with carrying strap. Great for shawls or sock projects.

$$ Binkwaffle Small Dumpling Bag ($46): from WEBS. The dumpling style project bag has a handle that threads through an eyelet to secure the yarn inside, and to create a loop for hanging the bag around the arm. Can hold 2-3 100g cakes. This one is reversible!

$$$ Della Q Maker's Canvas Tote ($130): a more high-end project bag from Jimmy Beans Wool. These totes are made to be beautiful bags for everyday use or to store a project inside it in style.

. . . . .

Double-Point Needle Keepers

PHOTO CREDIT TO KUOKNITS ON ETSY

Double-point needles (DPN) are used to knit small circumferences, like socks, mittens, etc. They come in various lengths, from 5"-8" to suit the project. If your yarny friend is often making projects on DPNs, get them some cute project keepers made just for storing those WIPS safely.

$ SHOP SMALL Leather DPN Project Holder from KuoKnitsShop ($10): from Etsy. A simple DPN holder design made of leather with metal snap closures. Available for 5"-8" long DPNs.

$ SHOP SMALL DPN Project Holders from KuoKnitsShop ($12): Yes, I'm spotlighting them again! They have a unique design to their project holders, so I want to show off their current shop selections. Can get holders in 5", 6", 7", and 8" lengths. TSA-compliant design!

$ SHOP SMALL Sheep DPN Holder from PreciousKnits ($10): from Etsy. All of her DPN holders can fit 5, 6, 7, and 8" needles. No need to panic about what size you need to get your friend! She has lots of fabric patterns to choose from, too.
