Follow-Up Friday: Crochet Pumpkin Bag & Valentine's Sweater

Alright, we've two crochet projects in the works this month: a Pumpkin Notion Bag and The Amalie Sweater for Valentine's Day. Let's check in on how they're going, shall we?

Pumpkin Notion Bag

Pumpkin Treat Bag almost finished

It's been a couple weeks since I shared my work-in-progress of Anchor Craft's "Pumpkin Treat Bag." In that post, I was 82 of 94 rows into the bag's body. I was also concerned whether I'd have enough orange yarn to complete the necessary areas.

I'm happy to say I had enough! Only nine grams of it remains now. The yarn cake was deceptively bigger than I thought, which is a good problem to have when using up stash yarn.

Cinched and shapely!

Cinching the bottom of the bag was a little finicky for me, but I managed with a few extra stitches. It looks nice and roomy for future fall-themed notions to go into... maybe even enough room for a smaller pumpkin bag for stitch markers to live in!

All that's left now is the green bit of the pumpkin's closure and its drawstring cord. I will be going up to my parent's this weekend so I'll finally be able to pull a nice green from my storage there. It's tough not having my full stash on-hand to dig through during projects. I don't have a proper storage solution here in the country yet to transport it down, so the city they'll stay. Once the green is acquired, this pumpkin notion bag will be done within a couple hours.

Valentine's Day Sweater

Gotta love when your hook matches the yarn!

I shared the humble beginnings of this sweater in last Wednesday's "What's My WIP?" post. It was only a handful of rows in on the front panel then, and I was worried about the color combination.

Front Panel 10 rows from being done!

With this sweater, I've managed to keep up with my goals for it in my project book most days, even surpassing them sometimes! That's pretty darn good for me. Plus, the days I fell behind were made up for other times.

I had to stop for almost a week to give my hands a break, though. I changed my computer setup and I think that on top of crocheting so much irritated my tendons. I picked it up again on Wednesday to finish the front panel, and I've started the back panel. I still have the sleeves, blocking, assembly, and the ribbing to do along the edges.

As far as the color: I've decided I like it. It makes me happy, and the more the sweater grows, the better I've been able to assess it against my skintone. It's quite nice.

I'm worried though I may not get this done for Valentine's Day after the healing hiatus I had. The deadlines are tighter than before now. I'd rather not push and injure myself, so we'll see if I'll have this done by February 14th.

A Couple Updates

Etsy

My Etsy shop reopening has been pushed back. I originally said February, but I'm thinking it'll be more toward April now. I've fallen into the perfectionism trap, planning and planning and not taking action, trying to make whatever I produce the best I can. My sweetheart knows this about me, and he sent me a video recently about a perfectionism study. In it, one group was told to make as much as they could in a month, not focusing as much on the quality of their products than the quantity. The other group was told to make the best item they could.

At the end of the month, the ones who focused on quantity actually produced better items than those who were told to work on one thing to "perfection." The conclusion? It's better to get things done and learn through action than plan something to death. I needed to hear that again. I plan forever and think it's doing something, when in reality, it's just a lot of energy going nowhere. I'm going to work on that.

The Blog

I am finding it hard to write posts at the moment. I feel like I'm not presenting you guys with things you want to read, or things I really want to write about. That's rough when you're trying to keep a blog. I like sharing my works-in-progress and goals, but do those really help you? I'd wager saying it doesn't. Would you prefer more tutorials, reviews, etc.? Let me know! I'm not sure where to go with this space.
