My Fall-Inspired Knit & Crochet Pattern Wishlist

Updated: Nov 7, 2022

I can't believe we're halfway through the month already!

Vermont has not been shy about showing off this season, that's for sure. It's definitely told us fall is here with gorgeous foliage and temperature drops, but I have yet to cast on a project, which feels wrong.

I haven't been short on patterns to choose from, though; there have been plenty of drool-worthy ones on the internet this year, especially for accessories. I decided to make a list of the Fall/Halloween patterns that were calling my name the most from Ravelry, Pinterest, Etsy and Instagram. I hope seeing them in one place will help me choose, and perhaps it'll inspire you to cast something on with me.

Now let's get to those patterns.

. . . . .

Knitting Patterns

Halloween-Inspired

Spooky Hat by Rosie Posie Knit Co. (paid pattern)

The Spooky Hat encompasses the essence of Halloween with fair isle Jack o' Lanterns, ghosts, and crescent moons. To me, this one is all-around fun design. I can see it being good for a corn maze, a haunted walk, or pumpkin picking. Maybe you're a social butterfly with bonfires and warm apple cider? This hat could keep your noggin warm as well as spookishly festive. Imagine the ghost fair isle worked in the glow-in-the-dark yarn that's been popular this year! That'd be a fun surprise.

Spooky Night Beanie by Lizzy Knits (paid pattern)

I saw the Spooky Night Beanie on my Instagram feed when Lizzy Knits announced its pattern release. It looks like an understated Spooky Hat with bats, ghosts and monotone colorwork. I've since seen it made up with different-colored brims. Someone used a tonal purple and after seeing that beauty, I'm closer to purchasing the pattern to make it for next October.

. . .

Flying Ghost Earwarmers by New Age Knitting CA (paid pattern)

I feel like this is the most beginner-friendly colorwork pattern on my list. I am not an advanced colorwork knitter, so this one seems the most doable for my current skill level. I love the others in my list but if I'm being realistic, I would get overwhelmed easily. This New Age Knitting CA's pattern looks like a good size to practice fair isle knitting without getting frustrated.

Autumn Doodle Cowl by Pacific Knit Co. (aka: Jamie Lomax) (paid pattern)

Another knitting pattern found through Instagram! There was a Knit-Along going in September, and I'm so bummed I missed it! It's how I discovered this beautiful cowl and Jamie's designs. Moonglowyarnco was working this cowl up with pastels, and I was like, "I want to make that!"

The extra-fun part of the Doodle Cowl is that you can pick which charts you want in your piece. Pacific Knits Co. designed many motifs to choose from within the pattern, and even released a colorwork chart expansion set! Maybe when I'm more skilled, I'll join the doodle-along and make this lovely piece.

Initiation Cowl by Hannah Mann of Dear Ingenue (paid pattern)

Okay: gorgeously dark. I love the look of Plague Doctor masks, which this reminds me of. From the description, it's a reversible cowl, so I think that means it's double-knit? If you're a fan of working in the round and intricate colorwork, this is for you!

Favorite Textured Knit Hat by Mama in a Stitch (free!)

As simple as this hat may look, I really like it. I like slouchy hats too and am in need of a new hat this season. She does have a crochet version as well if you prefer!

Stockinette Hand Warmers by Purl Soho (free!)

Long hand warmers scream fall to me. They're great when you want to wear your lighter jackets and not bulk them up with sweaters or long-sleeve shirts. They're also lovely for keeping your hands warm while carving a pumpkin outside on a hay bale.

Slouchy Witch Hat by The Entangled Fae (paid pattern)

I have seen a ton of different versions of this witch hat on Instagram. It reminds me of the wool witch hats that were trending many years back, but better since they're handmade. Even Alt Knots made their own recently!

. . .

Black-Haired, Red-Haired and Blonde Witch from The Crochet Queen Designs (free!)

I mean, who can deny the adorable nature of these amigurumi witches? I'm a sucker for Hocus Pocus too. These ladies would be fun to have in my office next October. They'd be a great stash-buster project as well.

Boo Baby Ghost Mini Amigurumi Pattern by AmiAmore (paid pattern)

How can you say no to crocheting a ghost like this? They'd be a cute companion for a little one, or tucked within some Halloween decorations.

Pampkins by PolushkaBunny Craft (free!)

These pumpkins are freaking cute. I want a whole basket of them. The link above leads to the pattypan pumpkin (the white and light blue ones pictured), but at the end of the page are links to the other styles.

. . .

Pumpkin Treat Bag by Anchor Crafts (free!)

A treat bag or a seasonal notions bag? I suppose notions are treats to a select few! The stitches look tight enough to keep your tools safe, but I bet you could add an autumnal lining if you wanted extra protection.

Did you see any patterns you like? I'm still on the fence with what one to do, but maybe I'll decide in the next few days.

I hope your days are well everyone!
